Photographs of work and activities from the year 6 PYP Exhibition
This group chose to inquire about body image and focused specifically on obesity, bulimia and anorexia. This was an extremely engaging inquiry for these year 6 pupils and led to significant community action where the group created informative leaflets and distributed these across the senior school, to form tutors and the school nurse.
The issue of puberty was something several students wanted to choose as their exhibition topic. Their action for this was relevant to all year 6 pupils as the groups produced fact sheets for year 5 and 6 students explaining the changes that occur, both physically and mentally.
Photographs of some of the cultures featured in the year 6 Culture Centre
As part of our unit on the beliefs, traditions and celebrations of different cultures we created a year 6 'Culture Centre' where students had the opportunity to present their findings about their chosen culture to an audience including the wider school community. This was a truly fantastic way to start the school year as not only was it engaging and relevant to the children it also helped to identify the different skills that needed to be developed, such as research and self-management skills.
Photographs of Maths activities
This photograph shows a year 10 student working with some of my class. He works with the class each week and has helped develop different activities. He is using a maths game here to develop their understanding of group work skills as well as improving their recall of number facts.
These sketches show examples of the work produced for symmetry in mathematics. It was an excellent opportunity for making relevant connections with our unit of inquiry on buildings and structures. These year 4 students produced beautiful sketches of the Taj Mahal and a bridge.
These two students are working together to accurately measure the position of finger holes on a flute as part of music workshop. The children saw very clearly one way in which measuring skills are used in real life.
